About Me…

My journey to being a Triathlon Coach has been somewhat unorthodox…

Time for a Change

I no longer enjoyed my work and wanted to prioritise time with my long-suffering children and husband. This decision coincided with my qualifying to represent Team GB as an age-group triathlete and the untimely and tragic death of a young, vibrant and hugely talented athlete and friend. I realised that despite being a cliché, life really is short.

In my work as a Consultant Paediatrician, working predominantly with children with disability, and throughout my medical training, I learnt so much more than just anatomy and physiology. I developed a broad and deep skill set which has been invaluable in my coaching life: teaching, psychology, communication, observational, analytical and “diagnostic” skills.

Georgia is a fabulous coach. I was not sure what to expect when I asked Georgia to be my coach. I have trained and raced for years but with no specific structure to my training. Georgia had an initial meeting to understand what I wanted to get out of the experience and what my realistic training hours would be like, and then worked out a programme that suited me and enabled me to work towards my goals.

Using training peaks she set me a programme, and I could see a week in advance what I would be doing (and then work with Georgia on any changes I needed to make if work / life got in the way of a session). We spoke weekly to go through how it was going and any issues or questions I had, and at the end of each session we used Training Peaks as a way of saying how the session went - and I knew I would have to be quick or Georgia would comment before I got the chance!

She is really easy to work with and explained how the programme would work and what it would achieve, and what I would benefit from each session. She also gave great strength and flexibility sessions in the week which complemented my training. I would definitely recommend Georgia if you are training for something specific...or even just wanting structure in your training regime.

My involvement in triathlon started in 1998

as part of a relay team of medical students at the London Triathlon. I have represented GB three times, twice at sprint distance World Championships in 2015 and 2017 and once in Aquathlon in 2019. I prefer short course racing, as I like being able to race quite often, but have raced standard and middle-distance triathlon, as well as SwimRun, open water swims up to 14km, cyclocross, mountain biking, cycling time trials, runs of all sorts and plenty more.

“I made a decision to do a middle distance tri and then looked at the standard online training programmes and panicked. I struggled to fit training around other commitments and never understood which sessions to prioritise. That’s where Georgia came in. She took the time to understand my needs and goals and provided a programme to fit around work and family, yet still helped me to achieve my goals.

She is extremely knowledgeable and provides constructive feedback on all training sessions which is very motivating. She is able to push and challenge me without going too far.”

I have also been heavily involved in volunteering within my local Tri2O Triathlon Club. I was Chairman for 3 years and then joined the events sub-committee in 2016 to help run the Reading Triathlon on an ongoing basis. Take a look under “Events” for more information about local multisport that I’m involved in.

“Georgia takes the time to fully understand me and what I want to achieve before creating a truly personalised training plan and keeping it under constant review with regular catch ups, progress reports and tweaks to adapt the training to everyday life. When I started with Georgia, she helped me get back to running after injury and she has seen me through one 70.3 with another one in a few weeks’ time. She has a sensible approach and is always on hand to give ad hoc advice and reassurance. I found her specific pre-race planner and post-race review extremely useful (and not something I’ve ever done before) to really focus my mind ahead of the event and then to assess my performance at it.”

“Thank you so much for your coaching. You have amazing patience and a great ability to find different and creative ways to show the same thing over and over until your participants “get it”.”
